Segura School of Music LLC

Music and Family
Music is the Backbone of the Segura Family.
It all started in 1967, a young, 14 year old, David Segura got the itch to play guitar. His father, Victor, was encouraging and more than happy to help young David get his first guitar and enrolled him in "Dance Band" as a freshman in Junior High. "Dance Band" was instructed by Mr. Pat Chaves, who David considers his mentor and inspiration. Mr. Pat Chaves was Davids only instructor, but gave him a strong foundation to continue learning on his own and to continue a life of music. David went on to perform with many bands as a guitarist, bassist, and vocalist. he stayed local to NM but has performed across the south west.
In 1982 David Married Betty and created a family of their own with 3 children, Devy, Chris, and Stephen. David never pushed his kids to pursue music, but music was in their blood. Anytime David had a gig, the kids were right there eager to help load in, set up, and load out. music was a constant so of course all 3 kids had a knack and picked up instruments. Devy loved piano and singing, Chris Picked up the Guitar, and Stephen Ran with the Drums. While Devey mostly played Piano as a hobby he continued singing with church choirs to this day. Chris and Stephen Chose to go Deeper into music, forming Bands, Performing across the southwest and even studding music at the collegiate level.
From Victor Segura, has come 11 musicians. We are a musical family and music has become our way of life. It is already taking root in the next generation of Segura's and we want to start inspiring the next generation of musicians in our community.

I was born on May 10, 1989 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, but grew up in Raton, NM. When I was 14, my brother Chris helped me set up his drums in the back room where we practiced. The first song I learned was For Whom the Bell Tolls by Metalica, and shortly after that I formed my first band with some freinds in Highscool that were also learning their instruments.
For the next 4 years I taught my self how to play drums by learning Metalica, Pantera, Megadeth and alot of other metal bands. After high-school, I studied music at NMSU and joined the 44th Army band. In college I expanded my musical knowledge both in and out of school. I played in the Pride Marching Band, Symphonic band, Roadrunner Pep band, and had a prog rock band called Lydia Banit. With the 44th army band, I played 100s of performances across New Mexico and during my deployment to Kosovo. These all pushed my abilities for the better.
My most successful bands I have had the pleasure of being a part of are Cryptic Writings, P.F.G.O.T., and KORYOS. With these Epic bands I have played all over the Southwest. From The Oriental Theater in Denver to the Historic, Whiskey A GoGo in L.A., The Roxy in Denver to The Launchpad In Albuquerque, the Legendary, Surfside in Fort Collins to the 44 in Phoenix Arizona. I am a rolling stone and I gather no moss!
Currently I play in 2 bands: Mojomentum, a bar band that plays rock, spanish, country, and everything in between; P.F.G.O.T., an original band that plays reggae, rock, punk, Ska, rockabilly, metal. through these band and all my other past Bands, I have learned so much about the industry and performing live. I have played almost every genre and have worked with very personality under the sun. for me it's always about the music and everything I do is to serve the music to the best of my abilities.
In my adult life I have substituted in Raton Public Schools, taught music in Fort Collins, CO and New Braunfels, TX. Now, I am starting Segura School of Music with my Brother Chris Segura , my Dad David Segura and my mom Betty Segura. Through this school based in my home town, I want to inspire the next generation of musicians! I want to revitalize the music scene in Raton with fresh new talent. I want to give kids more options to nurture their talents and discover all the possibilities the world has to offer!

Growing up with music constantly in the house thanks to our parents, including our dad who was always practicing guitar with the radio, definitely solidified our love for it.
I began playing guitar when I was 11 years old in 1997. Once I started, I couldn't put it down! My dad helped me with some chords and taught me the riff to "Smoke on the Water" by Deep Purple for my first lessons. My brother Stephen, friends and I where into Nu Metal and we eventually came to love Thrash Metal and Punk thanks to some family and friends that showed us some bands. Through High School I spent countless hours learning songs by ear. the first Album I learned front to back rhythm guitar parts to was Metallicas' Kill Em All. I practiced Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer, Acid Bath, and Pantera songs to further hone my playing abilities and push my limits as a musician.
After High school, I worked for a few years and expanded my playing abilities by exploring new genres thanks to my dads massive record collection. I grew a love for blues, classic rock, and reggaeI. I also took part in a few projects like local metal bands, One Shot Kill and Regicide, and a current band P.F.G.O.T. which is an original band that is hard to pin to a genre.
In 2010 I began attending college at Trinidad State Jr College for music. While here, I had the opportunity to take basically one on one music theory classes, piano and singing lesson from Sharon Suh. She graduated with a Masters Degree in music from UCLA, was a virtuoso on piano as well as a classically trained Opera singer. Once i obtained my Associates in Music, I began giving private guitar lessons to help give kids and adults the chance to learn what i consider one of the best outlets for artistic expression.
Since College, I have been able to jam with my brother Stephen Segura, Ambrose "Aj" Wilson, Isidro "Sid" Lopez in P.F.G.O.T., all of us taking the band to win a battle of the bands competition in Albuquerque, NM back in 2015 with a SW tour that followed shortly after. I also played with a recent metal outfit Sculptures of Rust with local shredder Anthony Martinez. We had the pleasure of opening for Hemlock in Denver CO at The Roxy Theater in 2017. I have also had the pleasure of playing in a local Blues band for a short stint called Boxcar Bootleggers with local bass player/singer Dan Flores and drummer Mike "Oz" Osbourne. I also have a current classic rock cover band Mojomentum with my brother Stephen and our dad David Segura as well as our good friend John Fajvan on Bass.
I hope that through the Segura School of Music, we can bring our love for music to the community, create live events for our students to participate and preform in, as well as give back to our home town.

I was born in Tucumcari NM in 1953. My first interest in learning an instrument was encouraged by my mother and father. They both supported me and my brother by purchasing a drum set for my brother and a guitar for me.
I began to learn on my acoustic guitar in 1965 at the age of 12 by taking lessons from several family friends my father hired. when I was 14, my family eventually moved to Raton, at which time I joined the Pat Chavez Dance Band class in Jr. High. Mr. Chavez's class, which had about 35 students that formed several bands, started me on my music journey and pushed me to play in my first group, Archuleta's Trio.
Over the years, I have performed with several bands, which involve a variety of styles such as spanish, country, blues, classic rock, and southern rock. The most successful original band I've had in the 50+ years of performing was a band named Woodrose. Woodrose was active from 1976 - 1980 and formed by me and my school friends. I played guitar and bass in the band. Currently, I play guitar with Mojomentum, which comprises my two sons, Stephen and Chris Segura, and John Fajvan on bass.
I have taught guitar to many individuals and have experience in knowing the discipline that it requires to ensure my students are provided with the best opportunity to learn. I volunteered and provided lessons to students aged 5-17 with the RREC funded by The Ted Turner Foundation. I also organized several youth activities at surrounding schools and formed a youth group to do Christmas caroling at local hospitals and nursing homes.
My goal is to give my students the knowledge and tools to learn how to play guitar, bass, and vocals. My sons and I are committed to providing the best musical experiences to our students, whether they are beginners or more advanced. Let's enhance the musical interest in the community and encourage our youth to explore the benefits of live music.
